When Should You Seek Treatment For Neck Pain?

While many episodes of neck pain can settle on its own, there are times where assessment can be helpful to guide management and reduce ongoing issues.

Here are some simple tips to guide whether further assessment may be helpful:

  • Pain that is persistent and not improving after a few days

  • Recurrent episodes of neck pain

  • Pain impacting on your sleep, work or mental health

  • Increasing stiffness or restriction in movement

  • Uncertainty in how to manage symptoms

  • Headaches not improved with simple Panadol and over the counter medications

If you are unsure, an assessment can help clarify what's contributing to your symptoms and how to best move forward. However if symptoms are severe, you have had a severe injury to the neck or if you are having any weakness to the face/ arms or legs - please seek urgent medical review.
