Low Back Pain / Sciatica

Lower back pain is a very common reason people seek care and can arise from lifting injuries, prolonged sitting, sporting activity or gradual strain to the spine. Many people experience stiffness, reduced mobility, pain across the lower back or symptoms that travel into the hips, buttock or leg such as sciatica.

At Flinders Health and Wellness Clinic, our team carefully assess how your lower back, pelvis and surrounding muscles are functioning to help work with you on addressing possible contributing factors to your symptoms.

Treatment focuses on restoring movement, reducing muscle tension and helping you return to comfortable daily activities. Our goal is helping you understand why symptoms may be occurring and provide you support to manage your back pain.

Why People Seek Treatment:

Lower back pain or stiffness Sciatica or pain travelling into the leg Pain when bending, lifting or prolonged sitting Recurrent lower back injuries Disc irritation or nerve-related symptoms Reduced mobility through the lower back

How We Manage:

Treatment is tailored to your sensitivity and underlying drivers of lower back pain or sciatica symptoms. This may include techniques aimed at improving movement of the lumbar spine and reducing tension in surrounding muscles.

Our approach reflects current guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), which recognises that many lower back complaints are “non-specific”, meaning symptoms can arise from a combination of joints, discs, muscles and surrounding tissues rather than a single structure.

Care may include hands-on therapy, movement guidance and practical strategies to help you remain active and manage symptoms. Imaging such as MRI or X-ray is generally only recommended when it is likely to change management of your condition.

Goals for Treatment:

Reducing lower back pain, stiffness or nerve irritation
Offers non-medication-based pain management
Improving lumbar spine mobility and movement confidence
Identifying posture, lifting or activity factors contributing to symptoms
Supporting spinal stability and movement control
Building strategies for long-term self-management and recovery

Treatment may include: dry needling, joint mobilisation, joint manipulation, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue massage, stretching and movement-based rehabilitation.
